Howdy y'all
I got a new shotgun with choke tubes. It comes with a a Full, Imp. Cylinder and Modified.
I'm mostly a handgun and rifle guy so i have a few questions:
1.) Can I shoot slugs through a smoothbore or do I need a rifled barrel?
2.) If I can shoot them out a smoothbore, which choke tube should I use/purchase?
3.) If I can't find the right choke tube, can I shoot slugs without a choke tube or will that screw up the threads??
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Choke tubes questions

2. see #1. You can also use a rifled choke tube, but try your IC first to see how they shoot.
3. ALWAYS shoot with a choke tube installed.

Federal, Remington, and most of the ammo mfgs make rifled slugs... They're great for hunting. When they hit, the critters go down HARD. I have friends who have taken good sized wild pigs with rifled slugs... The have told me that the results are nothing less than spectacular!!!!!!
The key is to buy some, try it out, and see which ones give you the best accuracy. -

Re: Choke tubes questions
Mon, June 27, 2005 - 5:04 PMWhile you're buying slugs, try the 1oz solid copper sabots. They are not rifled, but they hit with the force of Grapthar's Hammer! Penetration is phenom! But shoot'em with the widest choke.
Related topic: I used to be a big fan of the integral chokes. Just twist 'em to the setting you want, no extra stuff to carry around. Downside: after shooting 5-10 thousand rounds through them the choke fingers start to fly off.
